The Great Herdsman

The Great Herdsman or the translation to Scottish gaelic, Buachaille Etive Mòr.

Each time I have visited this area of Scotland I have tried to photograph this scene but I have never been happy with the results. I tried again on my visit up there a couple of weeks ago and I am quite pleased with this attempt.

I know this is a very often photographed scene and I'm sure a lot of you would have seen other versions of this but I would love to hear your feedback and anything you would have done differently.

Thanks, Gary.

D700, Nikon 16-35mm, 1/4 sec at F/14, iso 200.

This is really nice, Gary. I am liking your composition a lot, as well as the moody atmosphere and subtle color throughout.

Gary, Just spent some time enjoying your large version. A beautiful image you captured there this time! I like your comp, the colors look great and I love the flow of the water. The sky also adds to the wonderful mood. Nice work on this! :toast:

Gary, the cloud over the The Great Herdsman lends the picture is dark mood. 1/4 sec was just right for the waterfall. It's a beautiful view and reminds me of my only trip to Scotland when a dark storm approached Loch Ness, making it look monstrous.

Well done. :toast:

I'd be happy too!! This is fantastic Gary. I love your comp, the v-shaped water fall and the mountain behind mimic so well. The colors are just beautiful, and the water texture is perfect too. The clarity in both versions is amazing.

I don't think I would have done anything differently, this is great! This has a really strong Scottish feeling to it, if that makes any sense.

Well ... I'd have to say that there is one huge thing I would have done differently. I would have followed you to this location and mirrored your every move so that I could add this exceptional composition to my portfolio.

I would say the comp is perfect Gary, and I like the play of the water and the mountain in the background. They provide a good balance to the other. The colors through out are such a beauty to enjoy. Very sweet work!!

Hi Gary

Full of autumn colour and those wee waterfalls are fairly bouncing must have been a lot of rain that week.
