Back when I was EXPERIMENTING with different backgrounds in 2008, I used a blue 'kiddie' pool turned on its side for this one..
Black-chinned female, Hots Lips Sage flower.
F/5.6, 1/2500th, ISO 800, 1D M3, 100-400 @400mm with flash.

I like the shot, but the blue background makes it look "artificial". Great image otherwise, at least for me.

Hi Jerry,
Thanks for your comment. I knew it introduced an 'artificial' look as you say..
I was just trying new things at the time:wavey:

Hi Howard. I like the hummer. Nice exposure on the bird. I'd think about toning the red flower a touch. The blue kind of looks like the sky. Interesting thought using a kiddie pool. Never hurts to experiment.

Interesting experiment with the kiddie pool Howard-nice shot. I might be tempted to crop in from the left and loose the OOF stem and leaves. :toast:

Howard, great shot. The kiddie pool idea is a good one. Gotta get one this spring when the Hummingbirds are again in abundance. :toast:

Nice capture and great techs; it never would have occurred to me to use a kiddie pool at a backdrop.

Nice idea with the background Howard, lovely blue. The pose of the bird and the bright red flowers are excellent. Ray

Not a big fan of artificial backgrounds, but I must admit that your experiment works for me! Gives it a nice dreamy mood.
