Early snow +repost

Winter came early to Kansas on Friday. As the wet, heavy snow fell across central Kansas, I went out over the noon hour to a local grove of trees that I like for this kind of weather. The leaves are just now starting to turn around here, so there was lots of color left to contrast with the falling snow. The snow, ~2", melted quickly once the front passed. 7D, ISO 200, f/11, 1/25, 24mm, partial crop. C&C always welcome and appreciated.

Rob, Love the soft feel to this one. Immediately I wanted to crop from the right to the base of the curved tree. This gives more of a secluded trail feel...just my take. :toast:

Beautiful image Rob. Hope the early snow doesn't harm the trees as it can.

Thanks for the comments. Gary, I see your point, and will give it a try. Eva, it was too warm to do any real harm. The biggest issue was that the snow was so wet and heavy that a lot of tree limbs were broken off.

Such a moody image! I might crop out the white patch at the top, as it is competing for my attention with the pathway, but nevertheless really well done!

Ooh this is very very nice Rob love the tunnel of light that invites you in. I am much less keen on that small area of grey sky above the archway of trees as once my eye latches onto it, it becomes difficult to ignore. But.. the proportions of the image are so good even with the grey sky I would leave it entirely as is but maybe take two paces further forward to deepen the landscape a fraction more and fill the frame with canopy. Of course you could always clone some trees over it if you wish but that isn't my thing and it quite possibly isn't yours either.

A very inviting scene indeed Rob, it's like a scene from a fairy tale. Very nice.

What a great scene you captured, Rod. I love conditions like this and this one shows me why. I like the tunnel effect and the contrast with the color and falling snow looks great. Very nice!

Thanks for the input. Roel and Ian, you are right about the bright spot. It bothered me, but I managed to adjust the crop to get rid of it. I wouldn't want to try and clone over that large of an area with this image. I have posted an adjusted version, with the new crop and a bit of burning. Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

This is simply gorgeous, Rob. Love that inviting tunnel in the forest, beckoning one to explore. I do prefer your cropped version as that bit of sky Ian mentions does grab the eye. A superb image that has such a wonderful, painterly feel.

Rob,

This is just wonderful! Gorgeous perhaps a better word? I like both; the original as it's more open, but I also like the crop as well minimizing the bright patches with the crop. either work just as well.

I like both images Rob. They have a wonderful mood and the detail and tones in the larger version are just great. A wonderful comp also. :toast:

This has a wonderful painterly look to it Rob. Removing the clear spot up top improves the view nicely. Very well seen and executed.
