Taken on the South Fork of the Koyukuk River about 100 miles north of the Yukon River in September. Fall colors were rampant for only a few days before snow and wind removed the yellow birch leaves.
Nikon D700
Nikkor 28 mm manual lens, f/16, ISO 200, tune +3/6,aperature priority.
Capture NX2 processing.
Critique appreciated.

I love your perspective and the trees are pretty nice! White sky--not so nice, maybe crop some to minimize it.

Nice fall colors here Larry. The yellow birch trees are stunning. It's unfortunate that you didn't have a nice clear blue sky on this day. I might consider darkening the sky and increasing the contrast there to try and bring out some texture. I'm not sure if you have data in the raw file to pull this off, but I would give it a try if possible.

Here is another try based on the critique of bad sky and lack of color. The RAW file did contain some blue.
Appreciate any further comment(s).

I love the scene here Larry.

Two things I am wishing for. A graduated adjustment to bring out more sky detail and also a color balance adjustment. It has some color casting on my monitor (calibrated).

Mark,
You indicated a "color casting" issue with the revised photo.
I need to know what that term means and how it is usually corrected. If you have time.
I did tweak several areas of the photo to remove the 'blue' cast usually present in distant mountain shots. Was / is that the cause?

Great view of the river and countryside, and I like the way the FG adds perspective. Of course, the colorful birch leaves are the eye-catchers here, but they end up supporting a well-crafted comp, instead of dominating it. Good work on the sky in the repost, and it will be better when you bring down the blue in the upper right. Also, the mid-ground around the river to the mountains seems to have gotten more saturated, turning more red/magenta than the original, and I like the original better I don't know what the original colors were like, but the colors in the original post seem more natural to me. Subtle adjustments, but worth the work for such a fine scene.
