On the Rocks
by Phil Pogledich
It's been a while since I've posted an image for critique, but I'm happy to offer this one up for your thoughts and comments. This image was taken in March 2013 along the Sonoma Coast. I experimented with different shutter speeds and, in the end, prefer this image because of the good wave action throughout. And of course, the perfectly placed gull to contribute a sense of scale (atop the center rock).
I greatly appreciate your comments. Please check out the LARGER view.
Canon 5DII, 70-200L at 70mm, f/16, 5 seconds, ISO 50, polarizer and possibly a 3-stop solid ND.

5 commentsI wonder how the action would have looked if you would have used a faster shutter speed. I am not sure if the silkiness is productive in this case. With rocks and a rough sea, I would expect rough action and splashes. This photo makes me wonder if I'm looking at waves or clouds.
But you say that you already compared various shutter speeds and like this one the best. So I rest my case, especially because I am nowhere near being skilled as landscape photographer.
Let me end by saying that I really like this too!
