Big Leaf Colors

An image from last fall in the central island area. Fall colors are just getting started here so pulled this one out. Taken in heavy rain and low overcast but the colors seemed to pop nicely in that light. Main color here is from big leaf Maples

Beautiful shot Bill, I can easily see that hanging on a wall. The only thing I can think of is that I might brighten the tree trunk a bit.

Bill, the color pop is certainly included in this description. Wonderful fall season display. Heck, the glassy water and the very scenic reflections seem to be right on queue also. Very nice indeed.

I really like the composition and feel of this scene. As I look at the image I am drawn into the feeling of a cool, damp, clean, crisp fall day. The mist also adds to the image. Fine shot.

Very nice.
You handled the overcast sky very well, which is tough to do and still maintain the brightness in the mid ground.
i might lighten the trunk a tad, but not much.

Bill, What a wonderful fall scene you captured. Looking at the large version makes me wish I was there sitting on that log and taking it all in. Very nice!!

This has really got it all, Bill! What a spectacular scene. The leading lines everywhere, framing, depth and perfect use of space and color throughout makes this sing. I also like a crop down to the main branch up top as an alternate composition, eliminating that tiny bit of empty space middle/right top.

Gorgeous color, Bill. The reflection and the low clouds in the background are great as well. It's probably just the contour of the shoreline, but the image looks slightly tilted to the right to my eye. I'd probably try rotating slightly CCW. Also, since this great image deserves it, you could correct the slight CA (visible in the high contrast area in the tree branch) in post. Really nice work! :toast:

Pretty awesome scene! So comp wise you're close! If possible I would have gotten just a bit lower. That would have raised the left branch a bit higher out of the lake. Might be tempted to crop the right side to the tree to get rid of the bright spot up there. Also there is some weird grayness going on lower left. Very cool find and way to get after it!

Great composition and a beautiful landscape all round. I wonder if the white balance is just a touch too warm.

Beautiful colors and composition. Would have been nice to have less of an overcast sky and have a hint of blue in the sky. The photo works without them too. Nice shot.

Fantastic and bold fall image Bill! Has a real east coast/New England feel to it. The only thing I'd change would be to straighten out the far shoreline, which is tilted down to the right.

And as far as the overcast and rainy conditions go, those are what make fall colors pop the best! :toast:
