Vancouver sunset

While visiting Vancouver, we rode on the ferry to see Vancouver Island. This beautiful sunset was visible from the deck on our return trip back to Vancouver.

Canon 60D. 35mm at F/16 for 1/15 sec. ISO 200. Camera braced on railing, natural lighting.

Now, that’s a sky! Just look at the layers of cloud and color. I like how the orange/reds are not oversaturated or blown. Nice.
Why f-16? The photo looks good and sharp but would a larger aperture have been more appropriate for this far away subject, shot from a boat?

What a great sunburst!
Sometimes when you see sunbeams like this if you turn around you can see anti-crepuscular rays, a visual echo of the sunburst.

Carolyn,

This is simply GLORIOUS! Rare to see light rays like this - just so beautiful here. The color/sat seems to be spot on and I love the color gradation getting to the blue up top. also really like the reflected purple and orange in the water. What a special moment you've captured.

Really gorgeous sunset with the rays and lovely orange and blue colors. Like the water reflections and little island, also. Amazing it's so clear for 1/15 sec balanced on the railing!

Great job on this Carolyn with wonderful light in the sky and colors. You did really well capturing this off the ferry because it vibrates and bounces like crazy. Glad you got to see where I live.
