WC602 - Holding the Hook

Seining for Pink Salmon at Valdez, Alaska. The skiff pulls the seine out in a J hook shape and both keep a steady pull to keep the net tight. The person on the bow is plunging. The cup on the end of the pole makes a loud popping sound and keeps the salmon from swimming around the front of the boat and net. It was a wet, foggy day but a good day for fishing. I waited for the boats in the background to get in the right place to balance the scene and provide some depth.

Nice composition. I like how the reds pop.

Brings back fond memories. If you see the 48 foot sailboat, Gypsy Soul, say hello to my son Alex! :wavey:

Gary, your composition here is very nice. A good shot of the Inlet Sunrise and nice to have the others boats, clouds and mountains in the background.

Very nice scene capture and execution. I especially like the effect of the main subject having the only color in the image.

I really enjoy this one, Gary. The placement of the boats throughout the scene could not be better. Thanks for sharing the information on what was taking place with the person on the bow of the boat.

Great job in waiting for the right comp. Well balanced elements, with the larger foreground boat on the left balanced by the numerous smaller boats to the right in the background. Gives a nice feeling of depth. I also like the somber, monotone feel of this image, against which the red really pops and draws the viewers attention. Nicely planned and executed shot, Gary.

Great scene, Gary. The reds in the boat sure pop against all of the interesting grays and the boats in the distance add such a strong sense of depth.
