Ok, I thought I'd get this theme going, and also "officially" get back into my role as moderator, after our trip to the Canadian Rockies. I've already posted some pictures in other galleries. Hopefully, I won't make you weary with all my photos from this trip, but it is just such a stunningly beautiful area! We started off in Vancouver, and while a city (which nature photographers tend to avoid), it is a very beautiful city with a high standard of living. This is a late afternoon view from the terrace on top of our hotel, looking towards the tower overlook, which we did go up. I liked the play of the light across the buildings and the blue/tan colors. The community on the hill visible between the two buildings is where the multi-million dollar houses are.

Canon 60D. 76mm at F/10 for 1/30 sec. ISO 100. Handheld, natural lighting. A cloud would have been nice in the midst of all that blue sky! I may clone one in sometime, depending on my usage.

Lovely light on these buildings and a fine interplay of color (as you say). The peek through at the distant mountain top is an interesting bonus. While a cloud or two might be nice, you've got a fine coordination of blues up the center building and into the sky.

Lovely shot Carolyn. I used to live just east of that multi million area in Lynn Valley ,then in Delta where you connect to the Vancouver Island ferry. Did you get a chance to go up the gondola to Grouse Mountain ?

Stunning shot and I how we treated you well on this side of the border while you were here !

An interesting contrast with the wooded hills as a backdrop for the sharp and shiny architecture. Composition is good but a cloud or two definitely would have helped.

Carolyn, I also agree that Vancouver is a very beautiful city as far as cities go. I really like your composition here as it is very well balanced and the sunlight looks beautiful on the center building. I look forward to seeing all of your Canadian Rockies images - who could ever get tired of the Canadian Rockies!

This makes for a nice addition to your recently posted landscape shots, Carolyn. The perspective works perfectly here and I can see no suggestions or ideas for improvement. Glad you were able to make the trip, I hope to visit the area at some point myself.

This photo tells a story about Vancouver, i.e. that it is a big city with lots of skyscrapers (I've been there and love the place) and yet is close to some amazing nature (the mountain peeking through). The lighting is just right -- the sweet light on the right-hand building is especially fortuitous -- and because of that, I'd tend not to worry about the blue sky. Don't clone anything in; I think the results might look unnatural, and the image as it is benefits from the blank space. I look forward to seeing more photos from your trip, especially B.C.!
