The guard

This little hummer was determined to keep all others from his feeder. Even took a long look at his reflection in the lens(my guess). At times there were 4 hummers all trying to get to the feeder. Not much I could do about the metal perch, its where the hummer preferred to land while on guard. Fun to watch and photograph.

Good detail, with the perch providing strong leading lines. Well blurred and pleasing BG. The shadows could use a little brightening.

Good detail in the hummer, menacing pose  . Background is nice. Not wild about the perch as you noted. The composition is very centered. I'd be interested in seeing it with less on the left.

Nice sharp shot John, like the shadow of the beak on the rod iron railing. If anything perhaps a closer crop off center from the left might have changed the shapes of the image.

Nice shot - I appreciate the difficult comp: the bird makes me wanna wish it was more to the left, but the perch is nicely arching through the image (okay, it's thick and iron, but still I like the way it is situated in the image). Maybe lighten up the shadows a little. Pleasant shot in any case ! Cheers, Hans
