Valley Of Dreams

I needed an adventure so I got up at 5am yesterday and embarked on an 8 mile hike that turned into a six hour event of technical wet trail sloshing in the pouring rain up this valley. Was quite a memorable experience involving creepy naked jungle men and pig hunting dogs. Anyways, would love to get your feedback. Been having some trouble with getting my shadow point correct as of late... thoughts? feelings?

Very nice scene, and the vertical pano. format works well to show it off. I like the view of the straight waterfall and how it turns into the dynamic cascades at the bottom. The 'development' looks good, but I do sense your concern as the true blacks only appear at the very bottom. Perhaps masking those out and then setting a shadow point for the rest of the scene independantly might work better?

Beautiful shot Lace, your composition couldn't be better to me. I would consider a little dodging and burning to darken the top half and especially the top right of the frame, but I also think it looks great as is.

Lace,

I like the pano format, too. The composition works, as well. I agree with John about the black point. In the large version, there is some detail visible in the pools at the bottom, but I don't know if it's possible to make it more apparent without creating a lot of noise. Also (and could be just my old eyes) but I think the sharpness could be bumped up a bit. I also agree about burning down the area at the top just a bit.

Hanakapiai? I tried an image here last year but the constant drizzle kinda killed it for me. I like the comp a lot. Agree to fine tune the exposure on the highlights and shadows. Maybe also crop just a little from the bottom to rid of that little sliver of white. All in all, I think it's a nice representation of an impressive waterfall

Nice composition and I like the pano format Lace. I agree with the other comments and agree with Preston about the sharpness. But a very nice image as is. Very nice.

I love the twist on the adventure photographer narrative: creepy naked jungle men and pig hunting dogs are much more interesting than the long hike, dangerous rock, freezing or boiling temps, short window, perfect capture trope.

Perhaps simply a bit more contrast or lowering the middle of the curve a little?
