While looking on my Sea Oat grass for spiders, I spied this curled leaf tip. When I viewed it through my macro lens, I found this lovely abstract design. (I posted this previously on NPN a while back.)

Canon Rebel T1i. 180mm macro lens. F/3.5 for 1/125 sec. ISO 400. Tripod mounted, natural lightiing.

This is indeed a lovely design. I especially like the "vortex" of dark green coming from the top and spiraling to the leaf tip. What an elegant shape.

A work of art Caroline, I absolutely love it. The colors, shading, and narrow plane of focus are all perfect in my opinion. I think the 100mm macro is more versatile, but photos like this make me want the 180mm. Thanks for sharing.

I love the depth of field and background. I can imagine this with a spider in the curl. Did you find any?

Robert--I didn't find spiders that day, but I think a spider is what caused this leaf tip to curl! It's not visible in the picture but it looked like a spider had built a web on the leaf tip, making it curl up, thus creating a cozy home. But either they moved out or were not at home when I came visiting. . .so I just took some pictures of their cozy little home instead.
