Prisoners of the Tides

I've just returned from a week long trip to Washington. In six days I hiked over 50 miles, and explored everything from the rugged beaches to the temperate Rainforests of the Olympic Peninsula. I also managed to get down to Rainier to check out the wildflowers. I had never explored the west coast until now, it's been up there on my list for quite some time now. I'm not much of an ocean boy but found these beaches much different than what I was used to on the east coast.

This image was taken at Second Beach at sunset. Unfortunately there was barely any color at all in the sky due to the thick marine layer hanging there all evening. It is a blend of two exposures, one for the water action and another for the distant sea stacks which had become slightly blurred due to my tripod moving from the waves crashing against it.

What fun it was dealing with the sand that got all throughout my tripod, I now have a new respect for all you coastal guys!

Thanks for looking and leaving a comment, oh, and don't forget to view LARGE!

Nice take away from second beach. I've been seeing a lot of excellent black and white images lately, and this is up there with the rest. Could probably add a bit more contrast in the water and sky, and I'd like to see the rock in the foreground just a tad bit brighter (personal preferences). Having shot this beach, I know the troubles of the incoming waves and sand. I had sand stuck in my tripod for weeks. Can't wait to see what else you captured during your visit. Large view is very nice as well.

Great perspective, I love how the trees go up the cliff and feel that it's overall well balanced. The barely visible rock in the foreground mimics the large rock on the horizon - though I think you could have cut the exposure time a bit to really show this off

Nice work Zack! I like your comp here and the b&w looks great to me. The water motion is especially nice and adds alot to the scene for me.
