No matter what I did this mantis would not face the camera, and since there was a fence behind the roses I could not get to the other side. But, still like this one. Any thoughts about if I should have cloned out some of the spots of the rose?

I don't think we always need head-on shots. . .sometimes the backs can also be interesting. I like the designs on this mantis, particularly the wing section which is well seen from this back view. Even though his face is turned away from you, if you look closely you will see the pupils of his eyes are definitely watching you! Don't know if we have brown mantis around here. . .I've only ever seen green. The rose makes a great perch and I think it's fine to leave the spots on the flower. Helps add some texture and interest. But totally your decision if you want to clone them out.

Interesting capture even if his back is turned. I love the pattern on the wings. The spots on the rose do not bother me. Nice work

Great view at the mantis on a pretty, contrasting bg. Well composed for the mantis and bg, with excellent detail in the mantis' head/eyes/upper torso, as there should be. :toast:

Edit to my previous comment--I saw a brown mantis today on a fern in my flower bed! Of course, I took many pictures of him.

Excellent detail in the mantis & the rose gives nice contrast. The spots on the rose don't bother me in the least.
