Grass Flowers

Macro might be a better location for this, but I liked the intricacy of the flower structures in such an unexpected location, so I decided on Flora. I'm not sure of the species of grass, though I'm pretty sure it's non-native.

5Diii, 180mm f3.5 macro, tripod, f14, 1/125, iso 800, Av mode with -2/3 stop compensation. Processed in CS6. Full frame. Taken July 2nd at 8:29 am.

Your comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

It's not often I see close ups like this of Grass Flowers! I love the pink & yellow stamens! Beautiful presentation. I am sure it is a native somewhere in the world:)

Dennis - Very interesting details there --> specially the fine glass thread like formation. I have never ventured so close to a Grass Flower yet but I must.

Was the aperture F/14 (typo of 144 ??) and one other question is why you did not favour this frame with an vertical orientation.

Ram asked why I presented it in horizontal format. To tell the truth, only because that's the orientation I took it in-the head was so heavy the grass was leaning way over.

A unique image for me. You have a dynamic comp, and the close-up view of the fascinating structure of this plant both make for a compelling image. Maybe just a wee bit more of exposure to lighten it up. Well done!

I like the unique close up view, Dennis. Good detail. I'll second Morris' suggestion of a bit more exposure.

I'll be darned! That is quite a sight, Dennis, masterfully captured as I have seen you do in the field. Just seems a little dark is all. But a marvelous look at the complexity of grass.
