Tigress Stare Down

Back from India. After 6 months of safaris, I'm ready to post again.

Tigress, first-time mother of 4 cubs, blocking the road while taking a break from the cubs, and from patrolling her territory. Her look said "I dare you to come any closer."

Nikon 800E 200-400mm f5 SS 1/500 ISO 4000 early morning, low light

Your critiques and comments are welcome.

Terrific pose and love the eye contact. I initially thought the expression was that of indifference and contentment, but now realize that she is being a little passive aggressive as you describe. Sharpness is more than acceptable, but I think the face and eyes could be sharpened a little more, or perhaps just a bit more contrast in the area to make the eyes biting sharp. With a pose this special would want to get the post-processing its equal.

Nice image, but I don't see the defensive stare you refer to. In fact, I see a very comfortable look, one of total acceptance - much like a dog would look at you, lying on the floor in the living room.

Amazing looking animal, Butch. The overall detail in the larger version works very well along with the amount of DOF too. The color looks to be right on also. Very nice capture.

Lovely image, Butch! However, it seems a little soft, and could do with some sharpening and a boost in contrast could work wonders, too. Like the others, I don't see any hint of aggression in her attitude. However, this is as long as one is inside a vehicle. It could all change in a fraction of a second, though,if one gets down!

Butch,

What a marvelous pose you got here
To my eyes (and my monitor) the colours seem a little too red and a little more sharpening would be a good idea

Beautiful cat Butch and I love that low angle and the good isolation of the subject due to the even toned surroundings. The high ISO does seem to have negatively affected the IQ looking at the larger version.

Great low point of view and composition. My response to her would be "I will stay right here, mam!" As suggested by others, sharpening of the eyes and face would be helpful if the ISO will allow. Colors and dof work very well.

I really like the look she is giving you Butch, but to me she seems more relaxed than you describe here. The image does seem to have a bit of a pink color cast though and I agree with others about maybe another round of sharpening on the face would bring this up a notch.

Really nice low perspective make this a successful capture, as well as the eye contact. I, too, thought there might be a slight color balance issue and would also agree with adding a touch more sharpening to the face.

Lovely angle and soft light. I agree with Gary about adding some sharpening and contrast to the eyes/facial area.
I might also tone down the reds overall just a tad. Would love to have a moment like this one day!
