Woodland Park Rose Garden, Seattle. It was a good day for Roses! I found this particular red color captivated me and thought it looked pretty good in the backlight.

GH3, 100-300 @ 136, cpl, tripod; f 7.1, 1/200, ISO 500. NIK Viveza. Blended down the highlights a little bit and blended back a couple of buds.

Comments, critiques much appreciated.

This is a very special red Catherine, dark and mixed with blue. I like the composition and the background.
My eyes insist to bet you to clone the red spot touching the end of the right rose, that, at the first sight, seems to be blurred. That is not true. I love the photo, Catherine.
Take care.

Beautiful colors, Catherine. Good eye to position these deep red roses against the lime green bg. Lovely.

Very nice, Catherine. I like the richness of the reds and the diagonal form of the flower cluster. The little oof blob of red in the lower right corner seems to distract me more than I would expect-I think I'd try to remove it if this were mine.

Nice composition and tack sharp foucus. I know you wanted the backlight effect. For me, using NIK Viveza, I would have brightened the roses and darkened the bg. Personal preference. :wavey:

What richly colored roses! I like the three full roses flanked by buds at various places and the overall comp within the frame. The background is nicely blurred and a lovely color to show off the roses. I do think I would try to brighten the sides of the roses towards the viewer just a bit.

Oooh, love the dark rich color against that bright background. Gorgeous! And, the comp is excellent. :toast:

Beautiful, Catherine! Nice choice of background. Understand that the bright background poses some challenges, but it would be good to get a little more brightness on the flower. Maybe wait for some clouds to darken the background. :-)
The reds are right on.

Catherine:

What a rich red nicely contrasted with the bright green bg! Nice composition as well. :toast:

Wish for a little more fill light in the front, perhaps with a reflector.

Catherine: Beautiful bunch and a fine comp. In the same light I would be sorely tempted to pop a little fill flash to bring up the exposure on the roses a 1/2 stop or so but the deep color does work for me as is. Nicely done.>=))>

Hi, all. Thanks for the comments. For those of you who favor brighter flowers, I tried it. Looks just fine, too, but no longer mysterious maroon. Pretty, but rather ordinary. Think I'll stick with this and maybe whisk a dodging brush lightly over the darkest shadows. Or experiment with masking....
