California Poppy

Gallery: FloraPosted June 26, 2013102 views13 comments
Just playing around with the California Poppies a couple of weeks ago. I was trying to find a dof that would work with the interior flower parts. This seemed to have a nice feel.

5Diii, 180mm f3.5 macro, tripod, f5, 1/200, iso 320, Av mode with no compensation. Processed in CS6. Cropped to 11.2MP. Taken June 12th at 11:41 am.

Your comments and criticisms are very much appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Yeah, I'd say it worked very well. Just the right detail against a wash of great color. Love the spiral in the center structure, too. Beautiful shot.

Very pretty, Dennis. I like the orange sherbet wash and the spiral innards. I am not usually a fan of the large black site border, but I think it works well here.

Nice feeling of depth here, Dennis. I suppose the darkening of that brilliant orange gives that feeling. I don't recall ever seeing a spiral like this in a poppy. Like this a lot.

Oh, I love this, Dennis! Very appealing POV and your DOF choice works great. I like the sharp center set in a somewhat darker area that then fades to lighter orange. Well done.

I'm guessing you had that great PNW "cloudy-bright" sky to work with, given the time of day? You're right. This image has a very pleasant feel to it. Love the cluster of stamens and the dusting of pollen. Pretty, mellow orange color, too.

What a beautiful floral macro, Dennis! The california poppy is not easy to take successfully but you controlled very well its too vivid colors.
Cheers.

Dennis, I like very much the warm feel of this, would love to see it in a cold winter day.

Wonderful! Orange looks to good to just see it... want to touch. The dof and small dew is lovely. Well done!
