Lupahoehoe (Luh pah hoy hoy) point during sunrise. Volcanic rock spires get beaten by the incoming waves on the east coast of the big island of Hawaii. Camped in my car maybe 50 feet away from this shot. Best camp spot ever!

Multiple exposures blended. One for the rocks, one for the sky, one for the waves, and one for the sun star. DR was very high, and had to cover the sun to control lens flare. Complicated!

C&C welcome.

Nice! Looks like a sideways sunstar in the water movement. Love your processing, the blend looks seamless

Complicated is an understatement, but I sure like the results! Well done.

Enjoying the texture and the impact from the awesome wave captured. Great composition too with framing the rocks, water, rock…

Perfectly finished here. I see you got rid of that bit of flare on the right. Everything seems flawless now.

I see this would be a tough blend... Yikes! I like the comp, and processing here.

What a fantastic image you put together, Ted! Good thinking, great processing. Love the splashing surf in the spires of rock. The sunstar fits the scene without being cliche. The shadow areas contrast with the rest in a realistic way. Hat's off to you on a well thought out and executed image.

Tricky exposure fosho, and handled well. The moment in time freezing the feathered wave spray is dynomite!

Ted,
This has great action in it and you timed everything wonderfully.Great job on the blend as well. I feel like the whole image is just to bright. I would not expect to see so much detail with the sun smack dab in my face like that. Also the colors feel a bit washed out, but you were there and I was not so it probably did look like that. In any case great photo!

Outstanding Ted! The wave stop-action is awesome, and the way this is captured and laid out, somewhat unique too. So kudos for an excellent catch. No nits here.

Ah! The Big Island! Love it. So many wonderful places to take photos. This image is excellent and probably even more difficult to obtain than you have mentioned. Thanks for sharing it.

Ted, you did a very good process of all your different exposures. I also like that composition and the look of those volcanic black rocks with the waves exploding next to them.
