Uttakleiv, Lofoten, Norway

After the sun went down on Uttakleiv Beach. A very moody beach with many options for foreground elements. This was taken on our first trip to this beach with Ian Cameron.

Pentax 67II
Pentax 55-100mm
1.5-Stop ND Gradient
Velvia 50

Scanned with an Epson V750 with Silverfast Ai 8 Software and betterscanning.com adjustable holder with ANR glass.

Converted to B&W with NIK's Silver Efex Pro 2

Eva,

Without even considering the color version, this b&w rendition is wonderful! Great positioning of the foreground rock and I really think the long exposure and silky water make a wonderful element. For me, this is all about the rocky beach and if it were mine I might consider a crop of about 1/2 the sky. this also would bring in to play the very distant rain showers happening on the horizon, but also bring emphasis to the rounded stones and interest on the beach. Still, even as presented, I'm really enjoying this; especially the b&w processing. Well done.

Nice mix of elements here. The large rocks, to the smaller rocks with the water crashing up, the wall of rock nicely leading up to the ULC, and the moody sky. All very well placed throughout the scene. Beautiful work Eva!

I like the tension between the sky (with it's small ripples) and the foreground (with it's big rocks). I don't think there's any way to get that tension in a color version. The view is also, amazingly "long".

This is a beauty, Eva. Excellent conversion and great moodiness to the image. I like Lon's crop suggestion, but it works as is. This one really needs to be viewed large or the wonderful detail is lost. I like this a whole lot.

Love your comp here Eva. The large version really shows the detail and contrast better and puts me in the scene. Nice one!

Eva, I like this scene in b&w. I think you did an excellent job with the comp and exposure here, but I do think cropping some of the sky makes it even better. That does bring more attention to the foreground and when I did a scroll crop it just seemed to look really nice. Very nice just as is too.
