More from the Painted Hills, John Day Fossil Beds NM in Oregon. Looks to me as if Nature's Artist tried a hand at sumi-e painting.

GH3, Lumix G Vario 100-300/4-5.6, tripod, cpl; f22, 1/50, ISO 250, -0.66 EV.

Your thoughts and comments are much appreciated.

Excellent, I am really liking this one! Wonderful painterly look to the image, almost abstract. Great lines, colors and shapes.

Catherine,

Your best from Painted Hills so far - at least for me. I think you've rendered the colors perfectly here and I like that you've included enough of the landscape to explore the various shapes, patterns and colors, yet this is still a well scene intimate portrait of these hills. Well done.

I must admit, I had to look up sumi-e painting, now I get the connection. Very good.

Excellent abstract form this place, Catherine. I visited JD one day about 10 years ago, and failed to get something like this, which remains frustrating. :frown: I like this one alot. :toast:

I love this one. It is rich in color, shapes and textures but still some how soothing. Beautiful work

I'm amazed how the first impression of the colors and patterns in the images of this area remind me of Crayola shavings. You have a beautiful abstract here with an excellent mix of colors, tones, patterns and shapes. Well done!

I think this is my favorite from your series so far, Catherine. The colors and abstractness of this image are eye catching and I love the lack of scale here. It all makes for one beautiful image.

My favorite as well. The red 'eye' in the center provides a great focal point for the eye. Images like this remind me (or should anyway) to always consider the more intimate details of a vast landscape. Nice work!
