I really like the defensive pose this one made when another bird came too close to it's flowers this morning. I wish I'd had more dof, but I like the crop factor of the 7D for these small birds and I didn't want to go much higher in iso on that body.

7D, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Black Widow on RRS legs, f8, 1/60, Av mode with -1/3 compensation, iso 500. Processed in CS6 and cropped to 8.9MP. Taken at 5:37 this morning in the back yard.

Your comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Love these birds, Dennis, and you caught a posture we almost never see because it begins and ends faster than we can comprehend. Outstanding detail where is counts. :jump:

A very interesting hummingbird pose. I like seeing the tail feathers spread and you have good detail around the head. My only suggestion would be to lighten up the image just a bit. Nice job in getting this shot, hummers are really amazing birds.

Great timing to catch this pose. The DOF works for me. Sharp details where it counts. Amazing that this small, active bird is so sharp at only 1/60. Excellent.
