Making Bubbles

This male Ruddy Duck (Oxyura jamaicensis) is making bubbles to impress his dulcinée. By the looks of it, he is succeeding.

The males beat their chest with the lower part of their bill. This creates the bubbles. They then look around, impressed with themselves it seems to me, to see if they were noticed by a female. This is one of the rare occasions where I have seen a female that close to a male while he was making bubbles.

I was hoping to get a better angle at a shorter shorter distance and in better light, but the bubble season way well be over! We'll see.

Canon 7D, Sigma 150-500 at 500 mm, f/6.3, ISO 800, 1/500 sec, HH, natural light, LR5, CS6 and NIK suite. Still trying to find the best PP workflow.

All comments are much appreciated. Thanks for looking and thanks for all your comments on my other photos.

Neat action, Roger. I like the female in the bg. Good job getting her in good focus along with the male.
