South Point

The southern most point in the United States on the Big Island of Hawaii. Waves beat the cliffs of the shore, formed of volcanic rock long ago. VOG, a sort of haze in the sky caused by the volcanic gasses that are emitted from Hawaiis volcano give the sky a luminescent glow. I loved the sunsets on the island. This was my last night of my trip. After this shot, I drove up to kona, had a beer and a burger at Huggos, and went to sleep in my car in the walmart parking lot. They kicked me out at 2AM. I thought they allowed you to stay in their parking lots overnight?

I'm not really questioning much in this shot, I'm pretty happy with the turn out. Open to any C&C of course, however. Thanks!

Beautiful shot. Love the color of the water splashing against the rock.
To my knowledge - Wal Mart allows RV's to park overnight, but not cars.

The lighting is very nice, the wave action terrific, and I'm enjoying the long view along the cliffs.

Wow, now THIS is something I have't seen before. Every time I've been to South Point, I've never had weather close to this. It's a very ominous feel in a normally sunny spot. Great job on capturing just the right amount of wave action. I also like the cliff edge used as a leading line.

Question: did you make it to Green Sands?

Thanks for your thoughts everyone!

Kory, I did not go to green sands beach. Considered it, but it didn't look all that interesting to me. Didnt think the 3 mile hike or whatever it is was worth it.

Great all around image here Ted. Love the wave action and color of the water. Perfect SS. The sweep of the cliff keeps me going up and down through every part of the image.

Love that wave break along the cliff line. There does seem to be some hazy parts, but I guess it's from the vog. Nice comp and colors.

Ted - Lovely shot of South Point! It looks like you had great lighting, perfect ocean conditions with just enough surf to make it interesting but not so much it was overwhelming and you made the best of both. I really like the COMP here with the way the land curves around the surging water. Well done! :toast:

This is beautiful Ted. I really like the aqua marine blues in the water. The comp is very effective for me. I like how the curve of the cliffs leads the eye back to the sun. Very well done!

There's not much here to be unhappy with...it is a fantastic image. I love how the shoreline leads the viewers eyes to the sunset and while the viewer is on that little trip, they see those remarkably dramatic waves break on the rock. Outstanding!

Very dramatic and beautiful! I love the color contrast of the warm sunset with the turquoise water crashing against the cliffs.
