Really top notch photo in all respects. Not a species I'm familiar with, but doesn't really matter, you have captured him beautifully with a little twist of humor in that extended tongue and head turn.

I like the stance and that exposed tongue adds a lot to the image. Technically the image looks good to me and no doubt at all that vertical was the best way to go here. I'm wondering if sticking out the tongue serves some sensory role in this species (perhaps chemoreceptors on the tongue that augment their sense of smell?)?
I have a weird personal preference where I prefer to see only one distinct out-of-focus zone in a shot (foreground or background, but not both), so in my perfect world I'd prefer not to have the foreground out-of-focus band in this one. But definitely a personal preference issue and others likely couldn't care less about this - and multiple out-of-focus zones can be darned tough to avoid when shooting with super-telephotos.
