Red-tailed Hawk chick. The nest is at Lake Alice a part of the North Platte National Wildlife Refuge. I found this nest last fall and have watched it all spring. This morning I got my first look at the chicks. I saw three. Trying to get any kind of a clean shot was almost impossible. This was one of the clearest I got. This is a 50% crop. All comments are welcome.

A very out of focus branch that was very distracting cloned out in upper right.

39 views and no comments? Strange. Some shots are so difficult that they simply can't be brought off. You did the best the circumstances permit, but the bird is nearly lost in the foliage and branches. The backlight is pretty cool in the chicks pinfeathers, though.

Very cool, Richard. It's always so tough to get shots like this. There's an Osprey nest on a local preserve and the only way I can figure out to shoot it is from some kind of lift-and I don't think they'll let me do that  This is a real cutie.

After spending an entire day setup in the back of a pickup trying to get a shot of 2 RTHA chicks, I'm impressed with the shot! I wish the left branch wasn't in front, but . . .
