American Oystercatcher

Another from the Brig. I was wishing for a tad better light while there, but sometimes this type of flat light makes exposure on a b & w bird a little easier. This bird's mate was on a nest, and this one decided to settle in too near me for an entire bird image, so I decided to grab a few portrait shots.

50D, 500mm w/1.4, Iso 800, 1/60, F8
LARGER version also provided.
Thanks very much for your comments and critiques! Sharon

Excellent "grab" and tons of detail. The flat light really was in your favor on this one! :toast:

I think the light is perfect for this shot. Exposure is right on. Plenty of detail. Amazing that you could pull this off with 500 mm + 1.4 and only 1/60 sec. Love the composition.

This is very nice in the larger version. A good composition choice given the opportunity.

Wonderful color transition with the black, gray and white feathers. The eye really draws me into the image to check out the detail. Nice job in getting this unique shot, well seen and well done.

Excellent, Sharon. A very nice, intimate portrait and the bird seems totally relaxed. You have to love that eye!

Nice detail. The color is great and I really like how the eye is perfectly short.

Lovely composition Sharon, the gorgeous eye and just a touch of the bill plus the strong diagonals make this very pleasing to look at - the excellent exposure and superb detail make it even nicer - top notch.

Well seen and captured. The hidden bill makes it a bit of a puzzle, engaging the viewer.

Sharon,
This is wonderful, the detail is stupendous and I like the positioning of the beak, the eye is however the key to this magical image :toast:

Very nice. We don't have to frame the entire bird for a good shot :toast:

I really like the large version of this - excellent detail and nice eye ring/eye contrast. I don't think any more bird would have improved this, but the teleconverter could have come off if desired. 1/60th??!!!! Wow.
