Drakensberg Morning

Here's one of a few older shots from my 2011 trip to southern Africa I recently dug out. It was taken on a rather clear summer morning in Royal Natal National Park, South Africa. The Tugela River flows in front of the massive cliffs of the Amphitheater - a famous geographical feature of the Northern Drakensberg.

Looking forward to hearing your opinions!

Royal Natal National Park, South Africa

Canon 5DMKII, EF 17-40 @ 21mm
ISO 100, f/11, .4 seconds
single exposure processed in LR and PS (TKs luminosity masks)

best,
joerg

Stunning and unique! Have any shots with just the background mountains? I'd love to see a closer view of them.

With the river as the subject, this is very nice, Joerg! I love the large rocks in the river and how it appears to drop into a cascade in the fg, right before your eyes, as it were. I find that I am a little disappointed in not being able to appreciate "the famous amphitheater" you mention, though...
So, as a whole, I like the image. And I think there's another even stronger interpretation of the river if the image is cropped 1/4 off the top. And after that, I would love to see an image of the amphitheater, now that I am so curious!

Wonderful image Joerg. Really enjoy the foreground details and water flow leading me back into that wonderful mountain view. Like this a lot.

Beautiful place, the foreground is very strong but the peaks a bit distant, this leaves me wanting to see more of the peaks

Joerg,
I have only lived in SA for 7 years and have not been over to the east of the country very often, this makes me want to go.
