Excellent handling of the Columbine. The diagonal whatsit and what looks like a green stair rail(?) detract somewhat. I think if you cloned out the diagonal thingy, this image would be better for it.

Nice angle! Just when I think they is nothing new ... something like this comes along... what sets this apart is the dark red tops that draw my focus... and the details... lovely shot.

Such a small delicate wildflower that usually sits in a crevice of a rock. Great that you found one that was accessible. Nice capture!

Nice Columbine shot Wayne. I find these hard to get in tight, they just have so much depth for a small bloom. Excellent dof choice here though. :toast:

Wayne:

This is a beautiful capture of a columbine. The color is very well controlled and the delicate structures include the cilia are nicely shown. I agree somewhat with Phil's comment about the diagonal brown stem in the bg. Doing a little tidying before shooting can save a lot of time in post processing.

Thanks for all of the comments. Philip and Gary, the diagonal brown stem is another Columbine and I wasn't going to cut it, I don't mess with what nature puts out there, it belongs.

Yep, the dof made the shot on this columbine, Wayne. Excellent detail throughout the bloom. Decent bg, although I would still go with cloning out the other flower stem. Nice you didn't cut it or break it in the field, but it really would make this image better without it. I'll bet you hardly noticed it when shooting? Anyway, it happens to me like that, so I try to be careful to pick my subjects, OR: if I don't find the perfect subject, I process it like I saw it-- that is, without the 2nd stem. Perfectly fine to disagree; just speaking to the point that there are different philosophies about shooting and post-processing, which in turn contributes to a personal style. My opinion, fwiw.
