Davis-Besse from Magee
by John Clulow
I was at Magee Marsh Wildlife Area in Oak Harbor, Ohio, yesterday and took this view of the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station right around sunrise. We can see the cooling tower steam plume from the town where I grew up.
It was designed by the Babcock and Wilcox, the same engineering firm that did Three Mile Island, and there was a major accident at the installation in March of 2002 almost leading to loss of core coolant when the reactor head got a football-size hole in it due to corrosion. It has been the site of two of the top five most dangerous reactor incidents since 1979.
Every time I visit the marsh, the power station strikes me as an interesting juxtaposition, so I thought I'd share an image of it this trip.

Nice image, the light is soft and subtle, which I enjoy. I find it interesting how many power plants are surrounded my wildlife preserves!
What a powerful image... Thanks for sharing it and some of the history of the facility.
And congrats for the Pick.
