Persian Onion

We were at the Chicago Botanic Garden today and saw this interesting plant, and I decided to try an experiment that I'd like your views on as to whether you think it works at all or if it does to some extent, how it could be improved. The idea was to create a sense of depth using both sharpness of focus and size.

This was labeled Purple Sensation / Persian Onion. I guess to be politically correct, it should have been Iranian Onion....

I used a color layer mask to drop the saturation and luminance of the grass a little

This is a crop. Pentax K-5, Tamron 17-50 at 43mm, f/4, ISO 200, 1/250s (the winds were blowing pretty hard).

Nice, John. It certainly conveys the sense of depth you were looking for.

John, excellent color and detail, you did create a sense of dept, and it does work for me. I also like to see it with the bg blown out just for comparison. Nice work.

John: This works for me. I like the 4:5 ratio you chose and the DOF management. Well done. >=))>

Thanks for the comments Albert, Dennis, John&Patty and Bill. Just an experiment, but based upon the feedback, an approach I will definitely try to refine in the future with flowers. Thanks again.
