His First Antlers

Found this young yearling buck near the entrance to the nature area this morning. His was being very cooperative and gave me several nice poses. I liked this the best. You can just make out the nubs on his head where his first antlers are starting to grow. Most likely will be a spike horn this fall. He is also getting close to finishing the shedding of his winter coat. You can see large areas on his side where it has sloughed off. I'm sure he would like to see it all go as we've had several days in the 90'sF here recently. A few minutes later he was very interested in the brood of turkey poults that walked by. I added a little warmth to this and also reduced the exposure a bit to tone down the highlighs as the best ligth was past and starting to get harsher. Resized and sharpened. Comments and critiques are always welcome.

I really like your composition on this one, as well as the pose you captured.Nice healthy looking subject. The buttons are clearly definable. You handled the harsh light well. I'm sure you will show us more of him again when the light is better and he has his spikes.

I like the quality of the morning light, it really sets off the deer with a catchlight and shows the wet nose. There is some very nice texture in the foreground grasses and a subtle diagonal is present from the shadows. Nicely done Peter, makes me want to get out and look for some deer.

How nice to get this close and still have him feeling comfortable. Nicely done.
