Marsh Wren

Another from last Wednesday at Ridgefield. I stopped at the one walk-in blind and was tracking the movements of one Marsh Wren through the reeds, hoping for a shot, when this one suddenly popped into view much nearer and gave me some nice poses. There was one I preferred a little more but there was a reed was right in front of the beak (my wife says Jim should start a whole gallery for "almost, but not quite great shots").

7D, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4 TC, braced on blind window, f8, 1/640, iso 400, Av mode with no compensation. Brought the tail out of the shadows a bit in ACR, otherwise processed in CS6. Cropped to 8.3MP. Taken at 7:52 am on April 24th.

Your comments and criticisms are greatly appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Great shot, Dennis. The light was a little bright.... but handled well. :toast:

Terrific shot Dennis. You've done really well to bring the bird out against a background that is so similar in colour. Good and sharp too.

Like the open beak -- i might try to take a little off the left -- about half way between the edge and the bird -- just to see what that might look like

Very nicely done, Dennis. Great singing pose and nice light. Great job getting this skulker unobstructed. :toast:

The sun was high but the bird's position amongst the reeds worked in your favour.

Super detail on this Dennis. I think I have pointed my lens at three of these just in time for them to duck back down out of sight. VERY hard bird to photograph. Also always in a busy environment. I think you did the best you could with the conditions. Nice work!

A Marsh Wren in the marsh, go figure
Great detail/DOF and clear view of the bird, a well managed exposure under bright conditions.
I especially like the singing pose Dennis :toast:

I find these little guys very difficult to catch, you did a great job.
