The hummers are coming

It's about that time of year again when the hummingbirds make it back here for the summer. I really enjoy these marvelous little birds. This is an image from last July that I took in my backyard. I hope to share many more of these in the coming months as the population of hummers grows again. Hope you won't get too tired of seeing more of these again this year.

Techs:

Canon 5D Mark III
100-400 @ 330mm
1/160 @ f/13 (not really important as the light for this was created with 3 off camera flashes on the hummer, and one on the background)
ISO 400

Larger version provided.

I like the stop action to see wing detail and it does not look like flash was used. Wonderful display of colors with the flower and background. The larger image looks great, well done. Is this a female Anna's?

Love the way this comp 'flows' diagonally through the frame, nice.
I especially like the hints of color BG, great use of your multi-flash set-up Keith :toast:

Awesome shot Keith, excellent composition and detail, nicely done  I do find the faint ghost images of a further wings-forward position a little distracting - what causes that? Something about the multi flash setup?

Keith, that is a beautiful photo. The moment of capture is great and I love the way the image fills the frame diagonally. I certainly wouldn't mind a few more of these. Any chance you could post a photo of your camera/flash setup in the Gear forum?
