A photograph of Goldeneye Phlox and a Texas Star bloom. This is a blend of 14 images using Photoshop CS5.

Nikon 105 mm Macro
ISO 100

Would appreciate any comments and critiques. This is the best site I have found for honest critiques. Thank you.

Welcome, Tom. Love the little cluster of phlox with bud. They look radiant and cheerful in the light that's on them. I think the rest is extraneous in this particular composition.

Well thought out and executed, Tom. I like the detail, though I'm not sure the yellow of the Texas Star really works with the Phlox.

My personal taste would be to remove the Texas Star, but that is subjective only.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I agree that the Phlox blossoms are the main subject. Tom

I think there is too much DOF that makes the scene a little busy & detracts from the Phlox. I think if you had used the stacking for the Phlox & let the rest remain out of focus it might help. I like the angle & light on the Phlox itself!

Tom:

Welcome to NPN and Flora gallery.

Your image of the phlox in this light and stacking makes a very beautiful image. If you are making a stack to get more DOF for the phlox, you might try using a larger aperture (F4) to give you a nice blurry background. I agree with others about the Texas star being distracting.

Look forward to seeing more of your post here.

Those phlox are glorious and you've angled them nicely across the frame. The stack look great, except for what I call "typical PS edge artifacts along the bottom", but those can be easily removed with a very slight crop. Well done!
