WC 579 - ripples

I have always been enthralled by the way the shallow waters can reflect the light to create ripple patterns across the river bottom. The Arkansas River in central Kansas is mostly a sand/gravel bottom. These rocks are in a very shallow stretch between pools. The water is barely deep enough to cover the rocks. 7D, ISO 400, 1/125, f/8, polarizer, 168mm with extension tubes, small crop.

I like the composition of the image with the very clear rocks in the lower left and how ripples distort everything else, well seen Rob.

Wow! I really love the clarity in the bottom portion fading in both focus and color with the ripples into the upper portion. The larger version is fantastic.

Great blend of light, color, and the liquidity of the water which is not directly seen but inferred from the distortions it creates in the rock background. It is especially beautiful in the larger version where the image seems to transition from a photgraph in the foreground to an oil painting further back and especially over toward the right side.

Yes! The highlights on the rocks at the bottom really grab my attention and then the ripples keep things interesting.

Superb! I am a fan of ripples and pebbles too, but I don't think I have ever seen a combination like this, that includes both the undistorted details of the rocks, and the the effects of ripples in the same photo. Both aspects are composed in a logical and pleasing way.

Very pleasant image to view, Rob! I find the smoothness of the ripples very soothing and the clearness of the water refreshing. Great comp with the larger rocks in the lower left and the ripples spreading out towards the upper right. The good lighting really helps bring out the beautiful colors in the rocks. Very nice!
