Cane Toad Reflection

When I saw this Cane Toad on a rock in the middle of a mud puddle on the northwestern side of Kauaii, I knew it had potential. I positioned my camera with the lens pointing to when I thought the frog would jump based on where it was facing, and using a long remote cord I stood up on the opposite side from there, causing it to jump into the frame while I held down the shutter on continuous mode. Canon 5d Mark ii, 100mm macro lens, 1/500 sec at f/2.8, ISO 100, gitzo tripod

Welcome to NPN, Thomas. I enjoyed looking at all your images posted today - all creative and well done. In this image, I like the way you thought outside the box and then executed for the frog's shadow. Thanks for sharing this image here, and I am looking forward to seeing more of your work. :wavey:

I like the clean shadow and the tiny ripple from the single drop of water. I'm debating with myself about the partial view of the toad itself. I think it's an important part of the story, but it pulls attention away from the shadow. After some thought, I could see two possibilities, cropping from the top to just below the belly and then possibly cloning out the front legs. Having said that, I must admit to being personally very reluctant to do that much cloning.
