Blooming Bonnet

Sony A77
Minolta 200mm macro
ISO 200, 1/320 @ f11

The first bloom from our home grown bluebonnets. I preferred the warm BG of the rock a little to the dark BG of one of our lantanas. Your thoughts? >=))>

Here's the dark BG version.

Actually, I like the dark bg better, mostly because it doesn't spread out the dynamic range, killing the detail in the blue bonnets. The subject still stands out well, and the darker background is easier on the eyes.

Hmmm, tough call. I like them both for different reasons. Two distinctly different looks, which is interesting in and of itself. I like the contrasting blue and gold in the first, but I think I agree with Phil that the second is more harmonious and blends better and is thus easier to look at.

Bill

Terrific shots of the blue bonnets. Like Scott said they are really 2different comps. I have a slight preference for the 2nd image for reasons outlined by Phil. Nice examples of using color harmonies to express different moods.

I'm with the rest, definitely like the second post for the same reasons, anyway, beautiful work Bill.

Sure makes me homesick, Bill. I always loved the bluebonnets. Just a stellar image! Glorious in color and light. :toast:

Wow, both are great in their own way. I like the first for the total environment, and the second for the intimate nature of the flower. Both are very well captured.

Both shots are very nice Bill. I think I slightly prefer the first shot. Very nice photos of pretty flowers.
