Thanks for the comments everyone! I believe this is mostly natural plant decay oils but I can't be 100% sure. I've seen similar oils in large nature preserves far away from roads/humans.

Lovely up close look. The colors are great. There are lots of natural surfactants given off by plants and especially from clay soils so this is probably natural.
