I have never had a cooperative Green Heron pose for me before. We photographed him in a tree above the pond and he flew to the water's edge and began to hunt. He ignored me as I moved closer inch by inch. Wish the one long blade of grass behind his head was not there, but...

Nikon D800 Nikkor 200-400mm 400mm RAW ISO 500 1/1000 f/8 white balance auto Wimberley on a tripod Cropped slightly and processed in Lightroom and CS6 minimally.

Excellent details and colors here Patrick, nice job getting close to him, not sure if a lower angle was possible. Congrats :toast:

Really nice Pat. A lower angle would have been nice if possible.

Nice to find a cooperate Green Heron. They have some interesting feather patterns and colors. The larger image has some nice detail and like others have mentioned a lower angle would of added to image if possible. Nice job in getting this.

The LP version looks tack sharp, excellent DOF. Beautiful specimen, like that 'crouched' stalking pose too Patrick.
The colors pop, this GH never looked so good
Well done! :toast:
