Winter Cardinal II
by Jim Zablotny
Sunday morning I headed out to my blind to get some additional photos with slightly better lighting than the previous morning. The same female cardinal photographed in my previous post flew in and landed on the branch within range of my lens and I cranked off 5 shots. There was not a whole lot of detail in the snowy background so I processed the image to eliminate any blotches in the background. Is the small branch in the upper right hand corner a distraction from the overall composition? Some say it is, but I actually sold a print of this image with the branch left as is. Female cardinals are one of my favorite birds and you've captured her really nicely here. I think the pure white background works quite well giving it somewhat of an illustrative look. I don't mind the little branch in the upper right at all but I am bothered by the one hanging branch that runs out of the frame.
This is an excellent image, great BG.
