Heceta Head Light, Cape Perpetua, Oregon

My wife and I revisited one of our favorite places on the planet in November of 2010. Had to get pretty close to the light to even know it was there, the fog was so thick. One of my favorite captures of the icon. All comments welcome. >=))>

This is a great example of how mankind has learned to cope with the dangers that can be inherent in "murk". Very cool to see this lighthouse actively doing its job in the fog. I especially like the amazing light beams you have captured. Well crafted comp but the lighthouse does seem to have a bit of a lean to the right. Can see why you like this spot. . .I also find lighthouses very fascinating!

You are on a roll with this and the columbines. Dare I say this is my choice (so far).

Glad you enjoyed your visit to the Oregon Coast. I have seen this same fog effect on a couple of other lighthouses. The darker and foggier it gets, the better they look. When visibility gets this low, I don't think any of the light reaches the water. I would expect to see lighthouses photographed like this more often than I do, but I am a sucker for misty atmospheres. Yours is the only shot of the Heceta Head Light with this treatment that I have seen. The light on the treetop is a nice touch. Nice shot. I have included one of the Umpqua River Light taken at night and illuminated by my headlights.

Wow, Bill this is both beautiful and fascinating. The warm/cool colors are gorgeous, and the beams are amazing. They sort of give me a warm, hopeful feeling that the light is working; but at the same time, your commentary makes me wonder how effective these things are in this "pea soup" weather.

I was sure that I commented, but it seems to have disappeared into the ether. I love how you captured light beams in all directions and how they're set against the muted colors of the buildings. This is a great lighthouse shot.
