Out There: WC #575
by Wayne Jones
As we both paddled out of the bay, neither I nor this loon could see what laid ahead of of us, "out there" on the lake. (I was on the way to a sunrise I was hoping to see at the north end of this mountain lake, without a clue as to when the fog would lift.) I think this WC may be more about what we can't see than what we can see.
I've been offline for a while, and missed some interesting WCs, (just recovering from annoying respiratory infections) but I am happy to catch this one. At first, I thought of posting some of my favorite shots clearly depicting beautiful curtains of rising mist, clouds hanging over mountain peaks, or nestled into valleys. But then I took a second list at the challenge to "depict reduced visabilty due to atmospheric conditions." That's an entirely different subject!
So here's one where we are not looking at a picture OF the atmospheric "murk" from a clear vantage point, but a view from WITHIN and THROUGH the part of the atmosphere that obscures the contrast, colors, and details, reducing the scene to its most basic shapes.
Canon 5D2; Canon 24-105mm.
1/400 sec. @ f/8; ISO 1250
Hand-held from canoe
This is an addition to my "Gentle Spectacle" series. Of soft-color, low-contrast landscapes: Gentle Spectacle IIX -- "Out There"
