Tulum Sunrise

Sunrise light in Tulum, Mexico, February 2013.

My wife and I just returned from a 10 day trip to the Rivera Maya of Mexico. We spent 4 days in Tulum and the light on this particular morning was excellent. I really enjoyed watching the pelicans dive for fish out in the bay. If you look closely in the larger version, you can see a few of the pelicans on the rocks on the right.

This is the same spot where I captured the image "Waiting and Wondering" last year. The light is quite different in the two images.

Nikon D800, Nikkor 16-35mm, polarizer
1/6 sec at f/16, ISO 100

Scott, This is really beautiful. I love the light and color you captured here. The water motion and reflections are very nice, not to mention that beautiful sky! I see the pelicans too and especially enjoyed your large version which shows off this wonderful scene much better!

Beautiful light and color, Scott. I like the texture and movement in the water around the rocks which anchor the image in the foreground.

Scott, there is an amazing dynamic balance for me in your composition. The foreground rocks anchor the image nicely to me, and I really enjoy the sense of flow and motion in the sea. Your exposure an choice of shutter speed is spot on to my eye.

Really like the symmetry to your composition, Scott, with the subtle water motion adding such nice dynamic movement that really engages the viewer. Love the hint of light on the foreground rocks. Outstanding.
