Bluebonnet Reflection

This small pond caught my eye when I saw the reflection of the Texas Bluebonnets on the glassy surface. The photo was taken with a Nikon D-80 and a Nikon Macro 105 lens. ISO 100, f/32, 1/4 sec exposure.

Light looked to be really harsh, midday sun? You captured a nice scene here but there's nothing in it that really moves me. Some element that pops and grabs my attention. Maybe some sharpening and tonal adjustments might make it more dramatic.

Two to three things that i wud have done differently here,
* come back to the scene in better light of the day
* maybe move in little closer to the pond to remove the grass just at the bottom of the frame & put more emphasis on the reflection
* maybe even try to de clutter the scene by going for a vertical composition
all in all it's a nice intimate scene on which you can really work, btw can u go there again & retry things?

Thanks for your critque and comments. I really appreciate you taking the time. I cannot go back this year. I went to the location last week and the pond is dry. We have had little rain over the winter and this springs flower crop doesn't look good. Maybe another year. Thank you.

I agree with Krunai's assessment. However, the question remains as to what you can do with the photograph posted. I don't think buffing it up will help all that much. The reflection is not enough to command the frame and the OOF grasses in the foreground are a distraction. My guess is you have tried to get too much in the frame for the lens. Your 105 on that camera at f/32 would have a DOF of about 20 to 60 feet (with a mid distance of 30 feet); not enough to cover the distance. It is just not a close up scenery lens. You would have been better off with just a plain old 50mm lens.

Thomas:

Welcome to NPN and Flora!

This is a pretty scene. I agree with the comments given already. The posted image suffers a little from the compression and the large image is better. Like to see a little more sharpening.
