Welcome to the Wildlife Forum at NPN Adam. You have opted for low key lighting and intense colors in this portrait, combined with (at least in my view) soft focus except for the eye. So, lots of great feel and mood, but may not tick all the right boxes for those more concerned with technical matters. Hope this makes sense; for me a critique isn't a purely technical exercise, its open to interpretation and emotional aspects as well. I look forward to becoming more familiar with your work Adam.

A warm welcom to NPN, Adam. Regarding your image - it seems to suffer from camera shake. Were you standing and hand-holding your camera-lens combine? That might explain the shake, esp since your shutter speed for a 500 mm lens is only 1/150s. What lens are you using? Does it have image stabilisation? And, was it turned on?

Thanks Ajit,
This photograph was taken at night in a rural area, it was pitch black and the only light source was one light post, i was kneeling hand holding so its not so much an issue of camera shake the fox was unwilling to stay still for very long, apologies, the aperture in my first post was incorrect it was F6.3. The lens is a sigma 150-500mm. I had tried to use fill flash but it brought too much detail to the fox's coat which had mange and i was forced to reduce the shutter speed to keep the soft light, the Iso is low enough because as you can see there was a lot of noise in the background and i didn't want to increase that.
Thank you for your comments,
Adam.

Hello Adam

Welcome !! Foxes are Great to attempt to capture, their Brightness and Character can be a Photographers Dream, and their antics are wonderful!
Fast moving and difficult surroundings with available light is always a challenge. Although this is Not a Perfect Image, It does have an interesting perspective, Gary & Ajit have commented & I too agree with their Expert opinions. Always a Challenge to do better, and learn from knowledable, experienced Mentors!!:)

Looking forward to seeing more of your work & thanks for Sharing.

Welcome to NPN Adam. Although not technically perfect I like this shot. With the overall soft focus, I'm drawn to the eye of the fox and its intense stare, and it makes me wonder what caught its attention.

Looking forward to seeing many more of your shots, thanks for sharing!
