Where there is Fire

One of my smoking  images. This was taken at BR Hills in India where the forest staff were setting dry leaves on fire to prevent a forest fire disaster.

I made this image for the following reasons:

a) The scene is mysterious with the smoke holding a strong veil over the background. The parts of the tree visible give an indication of what to expect

b) The diagonal lines of shadow cast by the Sunlight peeping through the smoke complimented by another diagonal patter of whites from top left to bottom right created by the dark trees in the top and the bottom.

c) The play of magenta and cyan on the smoke cloud

I avoided sharpening of the image as additional details will remove the sense of mystery.

Camera: Canon 6D
Lens: Canon 100-400 IS USM at 100mm
Exposure: ISO 800 F9 1/4000 EV -0.3
Processing: Contrast adjustment and 5% crop bottom left

Murali, you captured all of the things you mentioned. Nice shot. I like it for the same reasons. Good sense of danger and mystery and nice colours on the smoke. :toast:

I really like the closeness of this image, I can almost feel the smoke in my throat. I am very weary of "control" burns, many of them quickly go out of control causing the disaster they were trying to prevent!

Wow, this is gorgeous! The rays of light going through the smoke & the silhouette of the tree really create a lot of drama! Excellent shot!

You captured a great moment in time. I love the intricacy of the silhouetted tree and the shadow rays going through the smoke. My only nit might be the tree leaves in the URC are a little distracting, but probably not much you could have done about that. Congratulations on the weekly pick! :toast:
