Winter Tales #1

Now I want to present some images from an ongoing project that I call "Winter Tales", consisting of a couple of short photo series.

This one was taken yesterday afternoon in the Vienna Woods (German: Wienerwald) in Lower Austria, an area of wooded hills forming the northeastern foothills of the Northern Limestone Alps. We had heavy snowfall, wind and snowdrift here, and I also found a place with hoar frost.

Please feel free to take a look at the larger version for some more details.

Comments and critique are appreciated.

I guess it all depends on what you're attempting to do here moodwise, but I find it to be too dark and murky overall. I think you have lost or hidden the contribution of the hoar frost, which could add a little contrasting sparkle. Even just a little here & there, if for no other reason than as a reference point.

I think you captured the mood well.......but I also agree with Michael's comment that it depends on what you're attempting to do here moodwise and what mood you want to show. Personnaly I would like to see some more contrast, but that again is depending on what mood you want to show.

I like the way you composed this Peter, showing the tops of the trees and the sliver of snow at the bottom, certainly has a dark mood, but that just fits the month, I like it, you did a fine job capturing the mood of this dark mysterious forest.

I like the subtleness of the detail in the darkness...am wondering what it would be like without the ground altogether as it draws my attention away from the subtle trees.

Peter, I think you have captured the feel of the winter woods quite well. I like the angled trees which add the difference in the image supplying an energy and sense of movement. Well done.!!!!!!!!! Chet

For me, this is some poorly exposed trees. Not much else going on in my head. Sorry. Just being honest.  :jump: :argue:

I like the setting and comp Peter thought I would increase the exposure +1 or +2 stops to bring out the hoar frost an snow.
