Ashokan Deep Winter

This is the Ashokan Reservoir in New York's Catskills. All comments are welcome; I particularly wonder whether the image would benefit from some cropping on the left. I already cropped a bit at the bottom because the snow patterns became a bit too much.
I made three different color versions of this and a B&W (the latter I've since improved with brightening). My latest photoblog post shows all three, asks for comments about which you prefer, and offers a free matted print to two people chosen at random from those who submit comments. Really I'm not so much trying to promote my blog here as to solicit comments from NPN members, whose opinions I value more than anyone. The link is http://fstopnancyphoto.me. Thank you very much indeed.

You have taken a nice photograph of a pleasant scene but there does not seem to be a feature dramatic enough to draw my eye. It appears to have been taken in the middle of the day where the lighting is kind of washed out and not very interesting. Not sure which direction this is facing but I believe with some early morning or evening directional light this could really pop. Something to think about.

I think this scene would really benefit from some more interesting light. I see a lot of potential with the ice/snow in the foreground, but I think you really need to have some wonderful light reflecting off the water/ice to realize the full potential. Do you have any images from this location in light conditions other than mid day?

Nancy, this looks to be a truly pleasing area to photograph as seen in your image here. I would agree with the comments regarding the TOD light. Landscape photography seems to benefit a lot with less harsh lighting. Although, there are times were even somewhat mid day shots can still work.
I was glad you included the note about your blog too. Those images reworked with the Nik software IMO look much better then this image as it's processed here. They definitely have more pop. Now, what is not totally apparent is the sharpness of those images at the smaller size, but even at those sizes they looked even better in that area of processing as well to me. That could be strictly off the added contrast from the Nik processing. Not being able to see those at the larger version as this one it does look as though the toned down version of the Nik processed photo looks very good to me all the way around.
