Gecko on Palo Verde

I took this last year & posted another version Spots & Bands but just came across this one and think it might be a little better.

ISO 1600, f16, 1/100 100mm macro, 5D2

It's actually tack sharp & you can see all his little scales but the compression killed me.

Comments, suggestions, critique welcome.

Erini, I am viewing this on my less than stellar monitor at work (when I should be working  ), so I can't speak to which is sharper. I'll look at this again on my 27" Imac when I get home. However, I like both images for different reasons. I like the way the gecko is more camouflaged in this version. He blends right into the Palo Verde tree, which is very interesting and educational. On the one you posted last year, he blended but stood out more. So, it all depends want you want to show more - the gecko or his ability to camouflage. I also like the fact that you see his eye in last years' version. When you get sufficient feedback and decide which one you prefer, please send me the image file for the other together with all rights to the image. :toast:

I like this version better. He really disappears into the bark.

Another very cool gecko image! I remember the previous one you posted and I liked that one very much. However, I also really like this one. The gecko blends so nicely with all the wonderful color and texture in the background; he has a nice pose too. This image is also quite sharp compared to your previous one. If I had to pick one, I liked better, I think it would be this one. . .but it is a close call. Exceptional image, Eirini! :toast:

Eirini, both are cool camoflauge pictures. I slightly prefer this one because the gecko hides better. Another reason is in this image, there is an abstract feeling created by all the colors and patterns.

Eirnini, :wavey: , This is astounding. While you have got the detail on the subject, what I really liked is the inclusion of the environment. Beautifully crafted and one of the best Ive seen.

This is very nice, but I prefer the 'Spots & Bands' with its better view of the head/eyes Eirini..
Techs look great here, nice detail..and of course that camouflage factor's amazing as well :wavey:

The way that the gecko is clearly visible, but at the same time obviously camouflaged makes this image work for me. While it's nice to see the eye in the other image, there is something about the contrast and detail of this one that just seems to tell me more. I suppose if you want a "cute animal" shot, the other one would be better, but as a statement about the creature and its habitat, I would pick this one. (Must be my background as a scientific photographer, rather than an art photographer speaking, so keep that in mind. Depends on your audience and what you want to say about the gecko.)
